Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous.

-1 Peter 3:8

The Bible is full of verses calling on God’s people to have compassionate hearts. We are pleased to announce a new opportunity to show our compassion, with the added benefits of growing closer and healthier as a congregation.

Our Compassion for You video below (created by our own Ken Britt) details the vision behind this ministry, and highlights each of the teams.  Text below the video provides more info if needed. One (or more) of these teams has a place for you!

How?

Through a new initiative called Compassion for U, Southeastern Health is seeking to partner with area churches to help foster healthier communities. “Compassion for U” seeks to improve patient outcomes by recruiting church congregations to:

  • Minister to the spiritual needs of those experiencing a health crisis, or grieving from a loss
  • Provide transportation to those unable to transport themselves
  • Provide meals to those returning home after a hospital stay
  • Help those in need feel that they are a part of a caring community

OUR ROLE

Antioch’s new Compassion for U Ministry answers that call. Initially we will reach out to our congregation. As this ministry matures, we will also reach out to our community. We desire to have a positive effect on our community’s health, and to demonstrate compassion, justice, trust, and unity to others.

To meet the immediate needs of those in need, we will, in the name and power of Jesus, reach out to those in our congregation and community who are struggling with health, grief, and personal issues.

Antioch’s volunteers will:

  • Pray for those in need
  • Love and care for those in need
  • Visit in hospitals and in homes
  • Help with transportation needs
  • Help provide meals in times of crisis

Southeastern Health's ROLE

Like spokes on a wheel, we will connect the love of Jesus to our congregation and community.

To assist in this ministry, Antioch Baptist Church has entered a “Covenant Relationship” with Southeastern Health.

Southeastern Health’s roles:

  • Provide material to encourage healthy eating habits
  • Provide information on helpful community services
  • Provide material to encourage healthy physical activity
  • Provide onsite resources to personally emphasize congregational wellness

FAITH

Faith is a vital part of healing ("Daughter," said Jesus, "your faith has healed you; go in peace and be free of your affliction.“ - Mark 5:34). Faith must also be a vital part of our Compassion for U Ministry. Let us “walk by faith, not by sight.”

Our Compassion for U Ministry has faith that:

  • A wellness model begins with prayer
  • Health and well-being are spiritual issues
  • A congregation that cares for one another will become a more unified congregation
  • This ministry will help Antioch Gather…Grow…Go!
  • Demonstrating caring attitudes to the community will build trusted relationships
  • Healthy attitudes and habits will become contagious within a community
  • Southeastern Health will remain a healthy and stable health-care provider, and a trustworthy partner of Antioch Baptist Church
